Past Projects RIVER TRAINING WORKS - Sungai Keladi, Kedah, Malaysia

Earth Support Company (M) Sdn. Bhd. supplied ESC-A5-FO sheet pile in lengths of 3 and 4 metres. The sheet piles were coated in coal tar epoxy paint in order to provide them with a life of more than 50 years. The sheet piles were driven using an electric vibro hammer hanging from an excavator. This method although unconventional, proved very effective and cost efficient for the contractor. The sheet piles were capped with a concrete beam to provide an attractive finish to what is a very cost effective and efficient solution to river training works in Malaysia.

Earth Support Company (M) Sdn Bhd further assisted Esprit Holland Dredging (M) Sdn Bhd by evaluating their initial proposal and providing an optimised sheet pile design.

The Sea Wall consisted of 16m Type 1 piles, infilled with 12m Type 2 piles and supported by a rock revetment slope. This use of a "Soldier Pile / Infill Pile" technique was possible due to ESC optimised design techniques, and provided the client considerable savings.

The Marina Wall used 24m Type 1 and 20m Type 2 sheet piles in a cantilever wall system. Loading was applied by groundwater due to tidal draw-down and soil loading from the geotextile reinforced sand fill. The cantilever wall was able to pivot about the stiff clay surface and/or the 80% embedment point which was 13 metres below the seabed. The shallower part of the sheet pile offered the main resistance to the cantilever action. The reduction of the length of the Type 2 pile therefore did not result in any loss in the lateral load capacity of the wall.
