Hiap Aik Consturction Berhad took over this abandoned prject on which one larssen sheet pile wall had collapsed and another wall, with residential buildings above it, was moving and in eminent danger of failure. Hiap Aik Construction turned to the expertise of ESC Projects (M) Sdn Bhd to design and build a remedy for a collapsed larssen sheet pile wall and stabilised the wall that was endangering the adjacent neighbourhood.
ESC Projects (M) Sdn Bhd was also given the task of creating cofferdams for the construction of deep pile caps for the basement. ESC Projects (M) Sdn Bhd used their high strength strutting system to support the unstable wall. Raking struts were anchored against posts buried in the slab of the permanent structure. The basement structure was formed around these struts and windows left for their removal once the structure was in place and suitable backfilling carried out. For the cofferdams within the site that were less than 4 metres deep a special steel capping beams was designed and installed creating a completely open area for the Main Contractor to build the pile caps. Both the capping beam and sheet piles were reused at various location throughout the site.
To repair the collapsed section of larssen sheet piles, ESC Projects (M) Sdn Bhd drove 15t metre sheet piles (Z = 5819cm3) behind the collapsed piles and excavated to a depth of 4.5 metres before installing one row of ESC Projects (M) Sdn Bhd raking struts. The strength of the sheet piles and strutting system was sufficient to prevent further ground movement and allow excavation and construction to be completed. Because of the experienced design team and meticulous construction staff ESC Projects (M) Sdn Bhd was able to provide Hiap Aik Construction Berhad with a cost effective, efficient and a safe solution to its problems.
